Let me go, I'm peeing in my pants

These are the exact words I said to my husband last night. In all my 36 week pregnant glory while trying to shove something into a box it didn't fit into, I knew I had to pee. I knew I shouldn't try and hold it, but it was such a weird moment. I stood there knowing full well I had to pee, fighting a box that was too small and the tears started to well up in my eyes. C jumped up to rid me of the box stress and gave me a hug. It was a nice, warm hubby hug and I must have relaxed enough, or maybe it was a swift kick from the inside or a combination of the two, but it sent the pee running right down my legs.

Not just a trickle...straight up pee.

And then I started to laugh at the sheer absurdity of what was happening and couldn't say the words, "Let me go, I'm peeing in my pants."

And finally, when my pants were fully soaked and I got my voice back, while I stripped for the laundry and the shower, a thought crossed my mind...

Did my water just break??

I haven't peed my pants in 30 years and I have no idea what water breaking feels like. Logic said it was too early for it to be my water, I haven't had any contractions either and I knew I was going to see my OB this morning, so I just asked her about it at my appointment. I do have to say it is so nice to pee your pants and have such an understanding husband and doctor. Nobody laughed at me (I mean we all did have a good laugh about it after), but the fact that this is such a normal thing during pregnancy is so comforting in its absurdity.

My OB did a check and it was just me peeing my pants last night. I am dilated to 2 cm, 70% effaced and -3 station. I am 36 weeks, 3 days and measuring 37 weeks. My blood pressure is normal, I'm even down 4 lbs from last week (for some reason I was seriously bloated last visit).

We still have a ways to go, but this is certainly the closest we have ever been. As I put sheets on the crib and laid down a waterproof mattress pad I thought, "maybe it is time to start thinking about a waterproof mattress pad for me too????"

  1. Our niece was living with us when her water broke - she comes out of her room, walks towards me, and says "Um...Jen? I think my water just broke...." She was confuzzled, and it was funny. Her water HAD indeed broken, but it was definitely time.

As for me - I'm only 34 weeks and terrified my water will break at any minute. Any time I feel a gush of fluid, I do a "sniff test"...which, yes, I realize is gross but is the only way I have of knowing! LOL

  2. I had an experience similar to this one:) But I peed when I stood up from just peeing on the toliet...Oh man what pregnancy does to the bladder. This is awesome news that your body is already preparing for labor but hopefully you can bake a couple more weeks before then. I bought a waterproof pad from walmart for like $8 bucks so I could x-fer it from bed to sofa without it being to much of a hassle...Oh and I have a towel down in my drivers seat just in case:)

  3. OMG, tooooooo funny. I am about to put down one of our puppy pads under me when I sleep so that I can feel safer. LOL. I am praying I don't need it for ages yet, but I am feelin.g I should be prepared.

You are certainly moving along quite nicely! Cannot wait to hear when your water does actually break.

    Keep laughing, sweetie.

  4. At least you didn't go to the hospital thinking your water had broken only to be told that you had peed your pants! ;)

  5. That is too funny! I'm newly pregnant, and you are giving me plenty to look forward to (well, approaching it with a sense of humor, that is). So excited for you and your husband!

  6. I almost peed my pants reading that. My pelvic floor is not what it once was. Sigh. But very excited to read how close you are to your dream - this is a special time.

Over from IComLeavWe and loving seeing all the different Blogs!

    The very best of luck

  8. Too funny! I peed in bed a little at 6 weeks so I can't imagine 36 weeks having to pee that bad!

    Best wishes!

  11. I'm going to go ahead and say that someone was pressing on your bladder. One of my girls loved to kick, push and stomp on mine. She still does.

  12. I can honestly say that's one thing I didn't experience in my pregnancy... had a couple of close calls, but always made it. My Beloved got a few really good laughs watching me waddle-run down the hall to the bathroom.

    Blessings on your final weeks...

  14. It's never too early for it to happen, but certainly it may be too early for us to accept that it's happening! Just wait until the baby is here and when you get a good cough or sneeze going, you're stress incontinent. Beautiful thing...NOT! Such is life after baby, start the keegels now!

    Happy ICLW, and good luck!
